Ⅰ. Profile
Tianjin, one of China’s four municipalities directly under the Central Government, is a central city, a famous historical and cultural city, a modern marine city and an international comprehensive transportation hub. It is also a national advanced manufacturing and R&D base, the core of northern China’s international shipping sector, a financial innovation and operation demonstration zone, and a key area for the national Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) coordinated development strategy.
Tianjin University of Sport (TJUS), founded in 1958, is one of the earliest institutions of higher physical education established in the People’s Republic of China. Boasting a profound educational heritage and a solid foundation in running schools, TJUS has cultivated and delivered a large number of outstanding sports talents for the country. The university is equipped with modern teaching and scientific research facilities; its new campus covers an area of 1,115.7 mu (about 743,800 square meters) with a total building area of 388,600 square meters and houses a great many world-class sports venues and facilities. At present, the total number of students, including undergraduates, postgraduates (master’s and doctoral), and international students, exceeds 7,400.
The university has achieved remarkable accomplishments in its disciplines and programs, and has a complete talent cultivation system covering undergraduate, master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral education. It has formed a disciplinary layout centered on Sports Science, with high-level interdisciplinary integration of Education, Management, Literature, Fine Arts, Science and Medicine. As a doctoral degree-granting institution, TJUS hosts a Postdoctoral Research Station for the first-level discipline of Sports Science. It offers two first-level academic master’s degree authorization programs in Sports Science and Education, as well as three professional master’s degree authorization programs in Physical Education, Journalism and Communication, and Applied Psychology. The university has 1 priority development discipline, 1 municipal first-class discipline, 1 municipal key discipline, 1 municipal top-tier discipline, 1 municipal characteristic discipline cluster for university-industry service, and 1 discipline included in the Tianjin Municipal University Top-Tier Discipline Cultivation Program. There are 22 undergraduate programs at TJUS, among which 11 are national and municipal first-class undergraduate program construction sites, 5 are municipal advantageous and characteristic programs, and 7 are applied programs.
TJUS is also home to 35 provincial, ministerial and school level scientific platforms such as General Administration of Sports of China (GASC) Key Lab of “Psychological and Physiological Regulation of Competitive Sports”, GASC Key Research Base of “Sports Humanities and Social Sciences Research Center”, Tianjin Key Lab of “Sports Physiology and Sports Medicine” as well as “Physical Health Integration and Health Promotion”, the first-batch of Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Bureau key Science and technology innovation think tank “National Fitness and Proactive Health”.
In cooperation with the relevant sports administrative centers and associations under GASC, TJUS has co-founded Volleyball Academy of China, China Baseball Academy, China Judo Academy, China Cricket Academy, China Sports Dance Academy, National Athlete Career Development Academy, National Breakdance Team Training Base, China Gymnastics Digital Training Research Center. It has also co-established the Tianjin Rowing Team, Rugby Team, Badminton Team, Baseball Team and other sports teams with the Tianjin Sports Bureau in succession. The establishment of the " National Athlete Career Development Academy " has made positive contributions to the support system for athletes' development with China characteristics. With the goal of cultivating outstanding athletes' reserve talents, TJUS has established an affiliated secondary vocational school, the National Volleyball Youth Training Center, the China Baseball Youth Training Center and five Tianjin youth sports reserve talent training bases including the Tianjin Youth Tennis Reserve Talent Training Base, actively exploring a new model for the independent cultivation of reserve sports talents. In recent years, students have repeatedly achieved good results and gold medal breakthroughs in domestic and international competitions such as the Olympic Games, the Asian Games, and the National Games of China.
TJUS adheres to an open school-running philosophy and constantly strengthens foreign cooperation and exchanges. It has established inter-school friendly relations with more than 20 well-known foreign universities and sports colleges, such as Springfield College in the United States, University College Dublin in Ireland, German Sport University Cologne, etc., and has been approved to establish the "Tianjin Wushu Culture Experience Base for International Students" and the "Tianjin Sino-Foreign Youth Social Practice Activity Base" to promote Chinese sports culture to "go global". TJUS attaches great importance to the training of international students, and specially establishes the “TJUS International Student Scholarship”, and recommends outstanding international students to apply for the “Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship”.

1. Application Form for Foreign Students to Study in TJUS. Check Annex I for details. 2. Copy of passport (ordinary passport and valid after April 1, 2027). 3. Physical examination form for foreigners. The inspection shall be carried out in strict accordance with the items required in the form. Missing items, no photo of the person, or no riding seal on the photo, no signature or stamp of the doctor or hospital, and more than the validity period of the inspection (6 months) shall be deemed invalid. Check Annex II for details. 4. Certificate of no criminal record issued by relevant local agencies. If the applicant is in China, a certificate of no criminal record issued by the local police station is required. 5. The highest academic certificate. If the applicant is a to-be graduate, he or she must submit a certificate of expected graduation issued by his or her school. A notarized Chinese or English translation must be attached to the text if the text is not Chinese or English. 6. Complete transcript of the highest academic education. A notarized Chinese or English translation must be attached to if the text is not in Chinese or English. 7. Certificate Photo (Passport photo). 8. Valid transcripts of Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) Level 4 and above. (Malaysian independent secondary school graduates are not required to provide language certificates.) 9. English language certificate or English transcript. 10. Personal statements. Including the study and research plan in China, the family’s economic situation, the reasons for applying for the scholarship, the awards you have received and your personal expertise, etc. (no less than 800 words). 11. Letter of recommendation. Applicants for master’s or doctor'’ degrees must submit letters of recommendation from two professors or associate professors, written in Chinese or English. The phone number and email address of the recommender should be attached. 12. Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship Application Form for Foreign Students. (Students who are willing to apply for the scholarship should submit the "Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship Application Form". Check Annex III for details.)

Ⅳ. Campus
Student dormitory is equipped with separate bathrooms, as well as AC (rental), WIFI, network and other equipment.
V. Fees
1.Tuition fees: All the courses are instructed in Chinese.
RMB 20,000 per year for undergraduates, RMB 30,000 per year for postgraduates and RMB 40,000 per year for doctoral students.
2.Accommodation: Student dormitory: RMB 6000 per person per year (independent toilet, bathroom, and rental air conditioning services.)
3.Accidental Injury and Hospitalization Insurance: 800 RMB/year (subject to the actual expenses).
According to the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education, international students must purchase insurance during their stay in China. Self-funded international students are required to purchase insurance before registering (http://www.lxbx.net/).
VI. Scholarships
1.Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship:
TJUS encourages and recommends qualified international students to apply for Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship. Tianjin municipal government scholarship is applied once a year, divided into first-class and second-class, and the funding period is one year. International students need to fill in "Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship Application Form” and send it to the registration mailbox together with the application materials for admission. The list and grade of Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship shall be subject to the announcement of the Tianjin municipal government.
2. TJUS International Students Scholarship(School-level):
TJUS set up a school-level scholarship for international students. The school-level scholarship is applied once a year, divided into first-class and second-class, and the funding period is one year. International students need to submit required materials within the required time, and the school will comprehensively rank them according to the evaluation conditions. The list and grade of school-level scholarships are subject to the announcement of the school in that year (note: Tianjin municipal government scholarships and school-level scholarships cannot be obtained at the same time).
Ⅶ. Application and Enrollment Review Process
1.Online application
Please send the registration materials to fao@tjus.edu.cn before May 31st, 2026.
Email should be titled as “name+ Application for studying in China+ Type+School+ Major”.
2.Preliminary review
The Foreign Affairs Office of Tianjin University of Sport will conduct a preliminary review of the application materials. Applicants who pass the preliminary examination will enter the further review stage.
3.Further Review
The Foreign Affairs Office will organize an international student enrollment review team review/interview the applicants. Please refer to the notice for the specific time of review/interview.
4.Admission
The admission list will be confirmed according to the comprehensive review results and relevant requirements of the Ministry of Education. The admission results will be publicized on the website of the TJUS Foreign Affairs Office, and the admission will take effect without objection.
Ⅷ. Visa
The successful applicant should apply for a study visa at the embassy (consulate) of China. Those who study for more than 6 months should apply for X1 visa, and those who study within half a year should apply for X2 visa. Please refer to the requirements of the local embassy (consulate) of China for the specific process.
Ⅸ. Registration Information
In September 2026, students should go to school with admission letter and other related materials.

2. Registration
According to the current Chinese educational system, a school year is divided into two semesters. The autumn semester starts from the beginning of September to the end of January, and the spring semester starts from the end of February to July. Students must register within the time limit stated in the admission letter. According to relevant TJUS regulations, if students cannot get to school on time under special circumstances, he or she must ask for leave from the Foreign Affairs Office. If the student didn’t go through the registration formalities and didn’t get the leave permit, he or she will be disqualified from admission. Upon registration, the school will review the students' personal information and materials. If there were violations or frauds, once verified, the admission qualification will be cancelled.
